Fund farms and animal shelters in the Philippines

Fund farms and animal shelters in the Philippines

A. BACKGROUND The Philippines, especially the island of Mindanao in the south, is an agricultural land that needs to be cultivated for the livelihood of the local farmers. The protected areas also must be conserved for the existence and preservation of the wildlife. There are some areas that need to be rehabilitated due to illegal logging practices by multinational companies as well as by local villagers. Mindanao is the food supplier of the Philippines. The focus of development should be given in this area considering that the land is very fertile; but despite the area’s importance, local farmers still struggle with their lives and remain poor. The aim of the organization is to provide farmers free seedlings of various trees which in the future will provide them an additional source of income to help alleviate their status. Crops like cacao and coffee trees will enable them to harvest after 36 months. Durable trees should also be dispersed for biodiversity, replacing some that have been cut-down long ago before the log ban was implemented. A small initiative was started a couple of years ago. Various fruit trees like mangosteen, durian, rambutan and guyabano trees have already been dispersed to local farmers. An organic vegetable plantation has been set up to provide nutritious vegetables for indigent families. Some vegetables are sold and the proceeds will go directly for the needs of poor farmers (including farm laborers) by helping them buy seeds of their own (which are very costly in the Philippines). Proceeds also will support children’s school needs such as slippers, umbrellas, bags, and other school materials. The organization also wants to set up a rescue shelter for dogs. Urbanized cities in Mindanao and in the Philippines in general have imposed local ordinances to take stray dogs roaming in the city streets and other roads both for public safety as well as for the dogs’ welfare. Sadly some do not have owners. Dogs who have owners can be claimed in the city dog pound within 7 days. Beyond that a dog will be available for adoption; but the sad fact is some unclaimed dogs are secretly sold outside to people who want to slaughter them for meat.

B. USE OF MONEY The project can be improved to a much greater extent and additional projects will materialize as soon as the following needs are met: 1.) Establishment of Asia Green Life organization. 2.) The acquisition of a portion of land that needs to build facilities like the nursery for seedlings, a rescue shelter for dogs, and a small receiving office.

C. CORE VALUE: Our core value is to make change in any way we can by helping the poor farmers, the environment, and the animals.

D. THE COST The portion of a land (more or less 7,000 sq.mtr) is valued at 180,000 PHP (25.71 PESOS per square meter or US $0.59 per square meter). At 43 PESOS per 1 US DOLLAR, the organization needs at least US $4,186 for the land. The needed facilities are estimated to incur additional expenses of US $4,000 for the nursery of various seedlings, the rescue shelter for dogs, and the much needed small receiving office which will serve as the main headquarters and center of operation for the organization. The desired change will either be slow or fast-paced. It all depends on you. Please give $5, or even $1. Every amount helps. It lies within your power to turn this dream into a reality. Invest in hope, global community, and the welfare of animals, the environment, and other human beings.

Summary:
We have struggled to buy seeds to grow fruits and vegetables for the impoverished population in the Philippines. We also are raising money to start a animal shelter. The Philippines is no place to be a dog or cat and we want to protect them.
