Running for a Domestic Violence Refuge in Forster Tuncurry

Running for a Domestic Violence Refuge in Forster Tuncurry

Domestic Violence affects women, children and men in our local community, yet there is no refuge service available to people who are fleeing such violence in the Forster/Tuncurry area.

Such a service costs about $350 000 per year to operate, which sounds like an awful lot. But in reality, if every one of the 36 000 or so residents for the Great Lakes were to share the cost per year it would cost under $10 each, which isn’t much at all, right?!

The Forster Neighbourhood Centre, in conjunction with a number of other community stakeholders, are trying to raise money to fund a refuge for women in our area, and Great Lakes Community Resources’ employee Joshua Burguete-Kirkman wants to help out.

Josh will be participating in the Forster Running Festival, entering the Half Marathon (his first ever), and he wanted to show his support for the refuge by raising money and awareness at the same time as he sweats, hurts and jogs around the place!

Oh, and Great Lakes Community Resources thinks that this is such a great initiative that we will be matching all donations up to $5000 dollar for dollar!

And finally, all donations are tax-deductible as we are registered charity.

So what are you waiting for?!
