Going for gold!
This year I’m aiming for a revenge! Please help me compete with my Saison in this years competition of Brussels Beer Challenge. Last year I tried and learned but this year I will go for gold! My goal is to show the Belgians what we are capable of up here in the north and it would be a triumph to beat them on their home turf with a beer style born in Belgium.
The beer and the brewery.
Every year since 2009 I produce one single batch of this harvest ale, traditionally made by Vallonian farmers. I call it Södvik Säsong after a small hamlet on Öland where I used to have a outdoor restaurant when Swedens biggest harvest market occured. The beer is dry, fruity and well balanced and it goes extremly well with food. This years edition of the beer is brewed by Eskilstuna Ölkultur and maybe it is the last batch ever made.
Eskilstuna Ölkultur is a Swedish micro brewery located in a lovely facility in the center of Eskilstuna. The brewery is also Swedens only brew pub and since they started in 2006 they have released well over 100 different beers. With over 3000 members and rapidly growing sales the future looks more than happy. Their motto is “brewing beers with heart and body” and I couldn’t agree more.
Who am I?
My name is Jens Skrubbe and I’ve been working with Belgian beers for over 14 years and I’m a beer tender at Pressklubben in Stockholm. Pressklubben is a Belgian niched bar with over 800 Belgian beers from around 130 different breweries. I’m also writing about Belgian beers on my blog skrubbe.com and I’m currently the beer expert in and chooses the beers for belgoklubben.be, a Belgian beer club that delivers boxes of Belgian beers at our customers door. Having sampled over 3300 Belgian beers and with more than 30 trips to Belgium I’m considering myself to be a true Belgian ambassador.
The competition takes place i Antwerp in the beginning of November and with your help me and Södvik Säsong will be there! Please help me get our revenge. Cheers/ Jens Skrubbe
