Track and Improve your game, as simple as 1-2-3
Trakxs virtuallyweightless wearable sensors use sophisticated motion capture technology and data analytics to deliver personalized, detailed and actionable feedback that players can use to gain valuable insight into their game — and what they need to do to improve.
Trakx is led by Brijesh Tripathi, who is one of the architects responsible for the most iconic piece of wearable technology today: the Apple Watch. He has put together an all-star team of software gurus and hardware wizards with experience at some of todays most innovative companies — including Intel and Adobe.
This amazing team is now using their experience to build Trakx, and usher in a new age of data-driven insight for athletes around the world.
From the practice field to the championship game, and from the youth leagues all the way up to the pro leagues, athletes are on a never-ending quest to take their game to the next level. They want to run faster, hit harder, swing better — and they need the tools that can help them get there.
Over the past several years, a new class of technology has emerged with the potential to help them do exactly that. Thanks to the rapid pace of technological development in the last few years, we now have access to tools that can capture an athletes movement, analyze it and then, with the precision and accuracy that only machines can deliver, turn that analysis into feedback that athletes can use to improve their game.Early entrants in the motion capture space leave a lot to be desired: Theyre either too heavy and cumbersome to wear comfortably, or theyre too limited in terms of the volume and quality of information theyre able to deliver.
Enter Trakx. Weve developed a platform that represents the next step forward in motion capture technology.
It starts with golf, and giving golfers around the world access to never-before-seen levels of insight into their game. It ends by bringing motion capture technology out of the lab and onto the playing field.
Trakx co-founder Brijesh Tripathi first came up with the idea for Trakx while working as a platform architect on another piece of wearable tech you may have heard of — Apple Watch.
Apple Watch does a lot of things well, but one thing it does not is motion tracking and analysis. Brijesh realized the reason for this is that the Apple Watch only has one point of contact with the wearer — the wrist — from which to pull its information. That means the Watch inevitably has to make a lot of guesses in its attempt to create a complete picture of the activity.
So Brijesh got to thinking: what would happen if instead of just one point of contact, you built a motion tracking system that had multiple? What would that do to the kind of data you could gather — and the richness of what that data could tell you?
TheTrakxinnovation comes in two parts — hardware and software. Together, they form a complete system for analyzing and improving yourgame:
Trakx sensors use sophisticated motion capture technology to create a detailed digital record of your movements. Unlike other motion capture systems, which analyze movement from a single data point, Trakx uses a network of sensors to track motion from a variety of different points, creating a more detailed and accurate picture of your movements.
Trakx sensors are ultra-lightweight — just 5 to 7 grams per sensor , or about the weight of a standard piece of printer paper — meaning they wont interfere with the athletes range of motion. The body sensors can be inserted into the gear athletes already wear — hats, gloves, shoes, belts — making our technology so seamless that youll forget youre wearing it.
Trakxs software takes the information gathered by the sensors and turns it into simple, actionable suggestions for how you can improve your form. Through the Trakx app on your phone or mobile device, we provide simple suggestions — small but critical adjustments to your hips, timing, shoulder movement, etc — translated for you into beautiful graphs and personalized feedback.
The system builds a comprehensive database of historical data, so you can view your progress over time, compare your performance on different courses with different equipment, and more.
So why has the Trakx team chosen to introduce our innovations in the golf community first?
Golf is one of the most-played sports in the world, with over 60 million players worldwide in more than 200 countries. Its also exactly the kind of sport where detailed insights that Trakx provides can make a huge difference.
Anyone whos played golf can tell you: good technique isnt just about the club swings. Hip and shoulder alignment, head positioning, wrist angle, follow-through: all of this is essential to forming a complete picture of your swing.
But most motion capture technology available in the golf industry today comes in the form of club tags that focus exclusively on the motion of the club itself — falling into the same single-point trap that plagues the motion capture space as a whole, and seriously limiting the amount of insight the technology can offer.
And motion capture isnt all that our technology can do for golfers, either. Our software incorporates scorekeeping, maps, club recommendations and more — making Trakx the most comprehensive golf training tool available today.
Golf is just the beginning of Trakxs vision for the future of motion capture technology. From a baseball players swing to a basketball players shooting form, our technology has applications across a wide variety of sports — and beyond.
Trakx has made some tremendous progress since we got started in September 2015. Our first form factor prototypes are fully developed, and Alpha testing is already underway. Weve filed patents to protect our innovations around multi-sensor position tracking, and were in talks with sensor technology company Invensense about potential partnership opportunities on the hardware side.
Up next for Trakx: were setting our sights on launch, and moving full speed ahead toward getting Trakx off the drawing board and into the hands of the players weve designed it to help.
