Maria, 32, has an elementary education as far as second grade. Her husband grows basic grains and her children are married and live independently.

Maria grows basic grains with her husband and also sells tamales. The cropland is a kilometer away and she walks to get there. Her work schedule is from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

She is in need of a loan to buy farm supplies to grow basic grains. She plans to grow more corn and beans.

The goal is to support businesses that will enable women to work from their homes or start flexible businesses, as many of them are single mothers and are the sole caretakers for their families. Women who receive this type of loan also receive training on entrepreneurship, business management and budgeting.
