What is it?

The Baby Focus is a detachable device for all mobile phones which comprises of a rattle to attract the attention of a child or pet, which when used in conjunction with your mobile phone’s camera, allows you to get great photographs of your subject giving the impression of them looking right down the lens.

The Baby Focus allows you to take photographs of your child whilst having them look at the camera. The device is easy to attach to your phone when you want that great picture, and is equally easy to remove and put in your pram, bag, car or wherever you think it would be most handy. In fact, if you purchase more than one, you’ll never be without that great photo! The rattle sound grabs the child’s attention, and then the spinning, colourful rattle maintains the attention giving you the time to snap a great picture of your little one. So basically, the concept is: 

Camera on Phone + Rattle = Great Baby Photographs!

 My Inspiration:

My wife and I have taken more photographs of our son Lennon than we both care to count. We would often have 20 or 30 variations of the same image taking up memory on my camera reel (see below as an example), trying in vain to get that great shot. We did get a cracker, but he still wasn’t looking at the camera and that’s what we wanted. I noticed that there were certain things that got Lennon’s attention, and one of them that never failed was a rattling toy. The sound made him turn his head from any distraction… even Baby Einstein! So I figured; why not add a rattle to a phone. The Baby Focus concept was born.

This shot below is exactly what The Baby Focus can do – without having to try countless times to get the photo!

What I Need to Kickstart The Baby Focus:

I am looking to raise at least $60,000 AUD to get my project up and running. This breaks down into 3 areas:

• $30,000 AUD is required for tooling, which is how the device is made via plastic injection molding.
• $20,000 AUD is required for a run of approximately 5,000 units, including having a custom made spring for the unit.
• $10,000 AUD for packaging costs (design yet to be finalised) and marketing.

Colour Options:

Although I have many plans for varying The Baby Focus, the initial run will comprise of 5 different coloured rattles:

• Pretty in Pink
• Brilliant Blue
• Black Magic
• Verve Orange
• Purple Haze

Due to the extendable ability of The Baby Focus, it fits on the following phone models:

• iPhone 4 through to the iPhone 6+ 
• Samsung S3, S4, S5, S6 and S6Edge 
• Windows range 
• HTC range 

 For best results, use with babies up to 18 months.
